2017-18 WEF Update

A LETTER TO OUR SUPPORTERS

Thank you for your support of the Westport Education Foundation.

This year has been a remarkable time for the Westport Education Foundation.  The WEF provided more than $50,000 in programming to the Westport Community Schools during the academic year 2016-17.  Our newest after school program, a system wide STEM initiative featuring VEX Robotics, Maker Space programs (project based, heads-on, hands-on learning) and Sea Perch underwater robotics, served more than 100 students comprising every grade level.

We also provided Westport Junior/Senior High School with a $10,000 grant for Advanced Placement teacher training and study sessions for students taking AP courses.  Additionally, we funded a myriad of programs advancing literacy, art, music, and business at all grade levels.  For a full list of our program offerings this past year, please see our website, westporteducationfoundation.com

We would also like to announce that our President, Dianne Baron, is stepping down after serving 3 years as President, and our new Co-Presidents, Sarah Gifford and Ann Marie Forbes, are taking the helm.

Sarah has been a member of WEF since 2013 and has been Secretary and Vice-President over the course of her time on the board.  She has also very successfully chaired the Walk for Westport for several years.

Ann Marie has been a member of WEF since 2014.  She conceived the idea for and has run the 1000 Books Before 1st Grade literacy program at the Macomber School for the past two years.  This program (which has been enthusiastically supported by nearly every pre-k through 1st grade student) was expanded this year to include second grade students, and has measurably improved the word recognition and reading skills of our youngest learners.

Sarah has three children in the Westport School System, and Ann Marie has 4 children attending Westport Schools.  Dianne will continue to serve on the board in an emeritus status.

We are working hard to ensure that Westport students will have the kind of education that enables them to be future leaders in our town and the world.  We are very grateful for your support.

Thank you for your support of the Westport Education Foundation.
